KARACHI: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday vowed to “transform Karachi into New York” if Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is elected to power in Sindh.
“I have not come here for political point scoring. Trust me, if PML-N is elected to power in Sindh, we will turn Karachi into New York,” CM Punjab said while speaking during meetings with political leaders from Sindh.
Shehbaz, who is on a two-day visit to Karachi, visited Awami National Party (ANP)’s Mardan house and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Bahadurabad leaders.
While speaking to the media along with ANP leader Shahi Syed at Mardan house, Shehbaz said that Karachi is the face of Pakistan and that “we will restore its reputation.”
In response to a question regarding Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq’s comments regarding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Shehbaz said that “you would be better served if your ask this question to CM Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.”
Later, speaking to the media at MQM-Bahadurabad headquarters, the Punjab CM criticised the Sindh government over its ‘negligence’.
“Why has the Sindh government not used the funds for the welfare of people. Heaps of garbage and poor condition of roads is disappointing,” he added.
“It is a grave injustice that the people of Karachi are deprived of their basic rights,” Shehbaz concluded.
